NAIJA ONLINE SPEED CHESS TOURNAMENT ENDS IN AN ANTI CLIMAX

NAIJA ONLINE SPEED CHESS TOURNAMENT ENDS IN AN ANTI CLIMAXWITH THE EXCELLENT ADEWALE ANNIHILATING KORMEGA 18 – 6

Yesterday 20th December, 2017 was the finals of the Naija Online Speed Chess Championship and it ended in an anti-climax with the ever impressive Adewale destroying Kormega.

The build up to the finals came with so much pomp and pageantry especially as both finalists were in ‘killing mode’ on the road to the finals ‘saccing’ every player they played with so much gusto. It was therefore not a surprise when Adewale and Kormega emerged as the finalist of the tournament.

Sadly, despite all the hype that followed the game, it was Adewale all the way as he battered, bruised, dismantled and massacred Kormega on the chess board 18 points to 6 wining every round of the game (see results below):

5+2                                                                                                                                         Total

Adewale 1 1/2 1/2 1/2 1 1 4.5
Kormega 0 1/2 1/2 1/2 0 0 1.5

3+2                                                                                                                                         Total

Adewale 1 1/2 1 1 0 1 4.5
Kormega 0 1/2 0 0 1 0 1.5

2+1                                                                                                                                         Total

Adewale 1 1 1 0 1 1 5
Kormega 0 0 0 1 0 0 1

960 3+2                                                                                                                                 Total

Adewale 0 1 1 0 1 1 4
Kormega 1 0 0 1 0 0 2

All through the game Kormega was played below par as he made too many school boy errors and blunders. What was more striking about the event was the in the bulid up to the finals, Kormega had a Lichess higher rating than Adewale in the 2+1 bullet game and 3+2 960 game with a rating of 1963 to 1926 for 2+1 bullet and 1872 to 1838 in the 3+2 960 game.

After the game, Kormega admitted that he had to bow to the superior play of Adewale owing to fatigue and lack of concentration. The champion Adewale thanked the organizers and as usual slipped into his Lichess anonymity.

For coming second, Kormega pocketed the sum of N 10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira) and Adewale for winning the tournament pockets N 15, 000 (Fifteen Thousand Naira.

Special thanks to the organizers the Odunaiya brother (David and Victor) for organizing this fun filled tournament and as customary with us Nigerians we pray that God bless them richly for organizing this tournament.
